What We're Finding

We came, we saw, we shook our heads.  While the fleets are in wild pursuit of enough breeze to zip them to Kaneohe, most boats are finding other things.

Halfway parties are starting to break out on the boats. This tradition of longer ocean crossings ranges from a break in the "no alcohol rule" to full-on costume parties, with Jim Gregory and Rob Moore perhaps setting the standard back around aught-8.

Some boats are finding wind, and are sprinting out ahead of their competition.  More on that in the morning briefings.

July 16 race report

The northerly-positioned leaders in the first wave begin to slow in light air, the Express 27's are constantly shuffling positions, and the big boats from the Friday start begin charging up through the fleet, both on the water and on the leaderboard. Almost every award in this 20th edition of the Pacific Cup is still fully up for grabs. Thrilling racing all over the course.

Venture Home

Venture, the Jenneau 49, retired from the race a few days back due to slow progress and other commitments.  This morning's AIS shows her just pulling in to Sausalito as of 0715 today (July 16).  Welcome home, guys!

Meanwhile, Limitless is making good time toward San Pedro.  Actually, it looks like a pretty nice run.

See you both in 2020

Sunday July 15 morning update

Wednesday and Thursday starters finally reach the northerly breeze, Cal 40 Green Buffalo continues to lead overall, A Fond le Girafon has less than 1,000 miles to go in her bid for line honors and the Morgan 382 Eliana reports a tuna has been landed and turned into fish tacos. The Express 27's have consolidated and Fired Up! is your leader. Pyewacket leads division E while Prospector guides the way southwest.

Saturday July 14 morning report

Saturday morning sees A Fond le Girafon out front of the fleet, Green Buffalo solidifying her claim to top overall corrected honors, Wednesday and Thursday starters still moving very slow, and Friday's starters sneaking away from the coast and into more pressure. It's all right here in your Saturday morning report.

Friday July 13 race report

A Fond le Girafon still leads on line honors, but the J/120 Jamani has taken over as your new overall handicap race leader! Southerly boats in the first wave beginning to slow while Wednesday and Thursday fleets are favoring the north route over this wind hole. Final fleet starts today!
